Major J A Critchley MC, died on April 5, 1917, from wounds received in action on March 26. The youngest of three brothers, he came from Canada to Barony House in 1906. On leaving School in 1911 he passed with distinction into the Canadian Army, and came over to France with Strathcona's Horse on the outbreak of war. He was wounded in 1915, and afterwards gained the Military Cross.
